The Friends of the Georgetown Library
The Friends of the Georgetown Library advocate for the library (e.g., in budgetary hearings), and provide support for needs and activities not covered by the library’s budget, including supplies and refreshments for children’s programs and special events. The Friends have on occasion purchased needed supplies and equipment.
The Friends of the Georgetown Library also contributed $10,000 to the DC Public Library Foundation (a separate organization) for its Recovery and Restoration Fund for Peabody Collection. The Friends raise funds via contributions, from occasional special events, and from sales of donated books. 
With the reopening of the library and The Friends becoming part of the Citizens Association of Georgetown, we are expanding our activities. If you would like to work on committees regarding book sales, children’s activities,publicity, advocacy, special events, or membership relations, let us know at libraryfriends@cagtown.org. Reception Marked Opening of Renovated Library in October 2010;
Friends of Library Becomes Part of CAG
 In October 2011 the Citizens Association of Georgetown and the Friends of the Georgetown Library hosted a reception and tour of the newly-renovated library. Over 150 residents came to see the new rooms, spaces, terraces, patios, and facilities – from the children’s room in the basement to the fabulous Peabody Room in the “new” third floor – complete with spectacular views. Director of DC Library Services Nancy Davenport welcomed everyone -- and Chris Wright, the renovation project manager and library staff talked with residents about the many remarkable – and not always visible – attributes of the renovation, such as the many renewable materials used in the building.
The historic building at 3260 R Street was severely damaged by a dramatic fire in April 2007 and has now undergone a complete renovation. The renovation restored the neighborhood treasure while adding many modern improvements including: better lighting, dedicated space for teens, improved ADA access, a larger Peabody Room housing the special collection of materials on the history of Georgetown, a new outdoor reading terrace overlooking Book Hill Park, a new bright and spacious children’s room with a special story time space, and restored woodwork throughout the building.
 The Friends of the Georgetown Library, which became part of CAG in mid-2010, presented two rare books of historical importance to the Peabody Room. Both are early Georgetown imprints and were acquired by the Friends of the Georgetown Library from Bartleby's Books in Georgetown.
A new third floor houses the Peabody Collection & Reading Room with nearly twice as much space including a large reading room (with north and south views), restored original wood reading tables, chairs and glass storage cabinets, and climate-controlled storage areas.
The old mezzanine level has been removed, bringing in more light and opening up the first floor to views looking out to Book Hill Park.
